Pictogram Symbols have been in use Internationally since 1980.  The distinctive white symbol on a black background provides the focus for communication and instruction.

The white symbol refracts light to provide the strongest impact for communication and the black background removes the possibility of figure ground confusions.

Pictogram Symbols capture the common-sense and conventional knowledge of visual representations for ideas and emotions and present these concepts in a clear drawing for effective communication.
